PADI Divemaster

The PADI Divemaster course is a seven-day course, during which, qualified Rescue Divers learn the knowledge and skills necessary to make the transition from a recreational diver to the first professional membership level of PADI.
Instructor-level academic knowledge is developed and tested. Confined water training includes the following: improving all standard open water skills to demonstration quality; rescue skills; equipment exchange (problem solving); watermanship and stamina. Dives typically include; deep, wreck, drift, reef, navigation, underwater mapping. Dive leader exercises develop the candidate skills in dive planning, leadership and proper response to common underwater problems. Functioning as an instructional assistant is also covered in the pool & the ocean. When successfully completing the course, the student is certified as a PADI Divemaster, and is qualified for attendance in the PADI Instructor Development Course (IDC).
Prerequisite: Certified as a PADI Advanced Open Water Diver and PADI Rescue Diver or equivalent. Completed PADI EFR Primary and Secondary Care training during the last 24 months or PADI-recognized equivalent. Forty dives are required to start the Divemaster program. Sixty dives are required until the Divemaster candidate may be certified. PADI Diving Medical Examination Form signed by a physician (specifically an MD or a DO) stating fitness to dive, and dated during the previous 12 months.
